0.1.2: Lumberjack and sawmill completely implemented

Hey folks,

the last two weeks, I worked a lot at my game and I want to show you the major changes at the current state.

Lumberjack and sawmill

The most of the time, I worked at the lumberjack and the sawmill. I created two new models for the buildings and I am really happy with the result, but see for yourself:

My next goal was, to simulate the whole process for getting wood and proceed it to planks. For this, I must change the good system. Until there, the goods where only a global number, but every human and building should have an inventory to keep track of the goods. So I implemented an inventory system and the UI for it. The starting goods are in the first town center from now.

After this, I implemented the tasks for the humans, that they find a free workplace or do their jobs (Lumberjack: go to trees, chop them & bring the items back; Sawmill: gather wood, proceed it to planks). Download the game and try it out. For me, it makes fun to watch the villagers at their work. You can also see, that the humans UI was extended. You can now see the current task, the home and the workplace of the selected human.

Other Changes

I have done some other changes. I do not want to go into detail but wanted to mention it:

  • saving of human tasks and object links implemented
  • visualizing tiles of the selected object
  • tree model height adjusted
  • performance optimization for human navigation
  • code clean up, bug fixes, and smaller adjustments

Game Title

Currently, the title of this game is Towns but it is just a working title and I am not really happy about it. I thought about it a lot but I have no really good idea. The title should state that the game is about founding and expanding settlements in medieval. I really like the titles "Anno" and "The Settlers" of the two large German game series. I have the hope, that someone of you has a great idea for the title of my game.
